The Cohn Zohn read in the paper today that the A's -- that Triple-A franchise operating out of Oakland -- is considering moving its TV broadcasts from Comcast SportsNet Bay Area to CSN West in Sacramento. We here at the Zohn are dying laughing.
We know the A's are cheesy and second-rate but this seals the deal. Sacra-freaking-mento? Are they kidding? Comcast you can find on Channel 40. For CSN West you have to get Channel 400, if you can find it. Good luck. How many sports bar in the Bay Area have Channel 400? "Oh, Chuck, give me a Bud and while you're at it can you locate Channel 400?"
The A's are mismanaging their product on the field and now they're doing it in the TV booth. And if they're considering a chump move to Sacto, a move out of the big time, why in the world would they tell anyone before they absolutely have to?
We at the Zohn will tell you how the A's could get a better TV deal. Put a better team on the field. Play to win. Stop pretending they're a major-league club. Make people interested.
We at the Zohn understand the true logic of going with a Sacto station -- all the A's good players are in Sacto. They sure aren't in Oakland.

Comment: What are you doing at the office writing this? You should put in a disability claim since you are legally retarded. Call the A's whatever you want, but last time I checked they are ahead of that other team. And they have been for how many years now? When you go to the Giants front office how big is their trophy case? Oh wait, silly me, I forgot that they have not won a World Series since they came here. Must be tough being such a passionate fan and having to sit through numerous World Series victories, dynasties and playoff races that you were not even close to being a part of. Yea the A's are low budget, there is no way of arguing that, but not everyone can be like the Giants and go out and spend half a billion on that pitcher, what's his name again? Great addition there, face of the franchise. He collects enough of their money. Not even going to bring up other signings they have made. Sad part is that the A's compete so much more, when they have significantly less resources available. Broadcast every Giants game, who cares anyways. If Zito is pitching, you know it's a loss. If he's not, unless the one good player you have is pitching, you know it's a loss. I'm not going to be irrational and say that the A's will win next year, or even compete, but I will say that they will make another long string of runs very soon and certainly will remain ahead of the Giants by leaps and bounds. That and Zito will lose another 15 games next year. And the year after. I believe the A's front office has daily tours of the trophy case if you ever want to see what a real team does.

Comment: Where to begin?
With the understanding of rehashing some already commented aspects, I'm going to list the idiocy of this "column" in the order of which it appeared.
1. Why would you be dying laughing, at the A's possible tv move? I'm not sure I get the joke. Do you even understand what that means? I wouldn't know, cause you make no point, only repeat info, and then deride. Top notch reporting in my book.
2. You said "How many sports bar in the Bay Area have Channel 400?"
My answer - Um all of them. Every sports bar has every channel possible. It's good business. Especially if the A's go to FSN West. One more non-point driven point. 4-0-0, man that was rough. I though I lost control of the clicker before I got that last 0 in. Whew, I need a nap.
3. I partially agree with this comment,
"The A's are mismanaging their product on the field and now they're doing it in the TV booth." I agree with the TV booth comment. It hasn't been a good situation. But, hey 3rd person talkin' guy, this move is to attempt to address the tv issues. It sure is a "chump" move to try and increase the value of your product and market to a larger audience. With this comment I see you have no business sense. You also suggest the A's be secretive and illusory towards there fans, leave them in the dark. Sounds like sound business ideas to me. You should run for president.
4. Great suggestion for a better tv deal also. Play better. Wow if baseball knew this...Play to win...ridiculous comment.
They field a better team than the Giants. Have better prospects than the Giants...I'm just waiting for you to bash them for eating up Bonds while he was hot the erasing him from their history. Nothing but class there.
But alas, the Giants are begginning make strategically wise moves in terms of personel...good for them, they should be on the rise, much like Oakland.
5. Your last "point" isn't a point, and bears no reason to remark.
Lastly, a recommendation in reporting relevance. Never, ever belittle anything you are reporting on, ever.
You have lost relevance, if you had any. Calling a group cheesy or second-rate shows your true colors and intentions prior to authoring this brain fart.
This article bears no reseblence of competent reporting, and it is not a report. Mere thought bubbles strung together, before being properly filtered by brain matter.
You give blogs a bad name. No wonder people don't take bloggers seriously.
It probably took me longer to write this than your article, and with more thought.
Sacramento still beats Fresno.
Have fun being fake.

Comment: Lowell - Sure it's odd, but it isn't hard to find channel 400. It's merely one more button; moreover, it's 2008, not 1958. Get used to it.

Comment: Lowell - right on! Once again you hit the nail on the head about the bush league Triple-a's. Everything they do is low budget ... tarp off the top deck, trade anyone who makes more than the minimum away for "prospects" who you never heard of and when a "prospect" starts contributing to the triple-a's, trade 'em for more "prospects" you never heard of, propose a ballpark in the middle of a traffic nightmare with absolutely zero convennient public transportation ... never mind tv stations, they should move the entire team to Sactown ... attendance couldn't possible be worse than it is now (or would be in Freekmont) ... what a joke this "franchise" is!!!

Comment: Why would a columnist in Santa Rosa care about what the A's are doing, anyway? This is simple flamebait to draw traffic to this blog by a writer who's time has come and gone. Do yourself a favor, A's fans, and the next time you see/hear Lowell Cohen talk about the A's, just ignore him. Don't give him the attention he desparately needs.

Comment: You're pretty pathetic with your constant A's blasting. How's that crow gonna taste in 2 years? It's called rebuilding, look it up.

Comment: Hey Dad, you're an idiot.
"We at the Zohn will tell you how the A's could get a better TV deal. Put a better team on the field."
The A's have consistently put a better team on the field than the G's over the past decade - what has it gotten them?
It's pretty hard to compete for fans when your neighbor is a part owner of CSN, owns KNBR, and probably signs your pay check too.
I know you write this stuff to get a reaction, but start using some common sense if you ever want to get out of the Press Democrat.
