I like to give "life at UCLA" updates here at Cohn vs. Cohn, so you, the readers and faithful fans, can get a sense of how I live down here. Today, I got a story to tell.
Thursday night my fraternity, Sigma Nu, threw its quarterly house party. Andrew Bynum, the injured center for the Los Angeles Lakers, the twenty-year-old former 1st round pick, was at the party. Word started to spread around the party of his presence, but no one could find him. Then suddenly he emerged from one of my friend's rooms with two girls and a small entourage of Sigma Nus following behind him. Everyone who had a camera or a cell phoned rushed towards him to get a picture.
I just found a small sampling of those pictures here, here, and here.
Bynum walked out of the hall, down a flight of stairs, and into the center of the dance floor, where he danced with the two girls. I don't know what this means about the state of his knee, or if he'll be able to play for the Lakers this post-season. But I do know that he can walk down stairs and dance to fast paced hip hop.
Any questions you have about what happened that night, feel free to ask me in the comment section.
Next, I happened to have a long conversation with a UCLA football player whom I will not name. He told me that both Patrick Cowan and Ben Olsen, the two leading candidates for the starting quarterback job, got injured at practice Thursday, and that he expects them both to be sidelined until the beginning of the season. The LA Times corroborated this report here.
He also said that Kevin Craft, the quarterback from Escondido, CA who transferred to UCLA this off season, has looked great in spring practices, and that he wouldn't be surprised if Kraft emerged as the starting quarterback for the Bruins in the fall.
I also asked the football player whom he preferred, Rick Neuheisel or former coach Karl Dorrell. He said emphatically that he preferred Neuheisel, saying Neuheisel seems savvy, and Dorrell seemed over his head.
Side note: Rick Neuheisel was a Sigma Nu when he went to UCLA in the early 80s. We recently had him over for dinner, and threw a party in his honor called "Sigma Nu-heisel." My dad thought of the name.

Comment: What's wrong with partying? He's a very young guy, what better way to enjoy yourself, he's young and rich, girls will be attracted to him because they know who he is and what he does. Life is short and why not enjoy what living and life have to offer. Have a good time Bynum, don't place limitations upon yourself and don't care what people may think or say about you, enjoy yourself, partying, and the girls that come along with it.

Comment: Damn, that's pretty sweet! Now that's the type of party that I want to show up to, haha. That's pretty sweet that he showed up too. I saw him a while back at the Hustler Hollywood and he was really cool and laid back, willing to answer any questions I had. Great guy.
I'm actually an ambassador for Hustler Hollywood, and we're having a huge sale right now for the entire month of July called the Freedom Sale, all you have to do is bring in a coupon and you'll get 15 % a big selection of stuff.
Hit me up if you want that coupon, it'd be great if you shared this with your readers, after all everyone loves Hustler, even if they don't admit it, hahaha.
Hope posting on here didn't overstep any bounds. Hope to hear from you!
Peace,

Comment: Its fine if Bynums dancing, health wise. He has been dunking in practice for a few weeks now, and running on his full weight.

Comment: Good to see the parties at 601 are still going strong and drawing celebrities. I am not accusing your dad of plagiarism, but we (old snakes)have been calling him "Sigma Nu-heisel" since the eighties. Cool blog, look forward to checking it out (heard about it at Bruin Nation).

Comment: you should have seen him go, he was sweating on the dance floor with his knees bent(so he could reach his girl friend) for a good 25 minutes. But overall he is a very nice and friendly guy.

Comment: Hahahah, yea I didn't believe him either, perhaps he tells that to everyone just to end the conversation. I know that Jordan Farmar was also there that night and that they both came together. If you have a facebook account I can add so you can see the pictures.

Comment: Hey Iggy,
I amt the guy in one of the pics u posted (the first pic, the guy on the right). Bynum was with his cousin and his girl friend (who attends UCLA). I asked him if he is going to play in this years' playoffs and he said he'll play in the finals if they make it there.

Comment: now that's some inside info. right there. since you're a sigma nu and andrew was with a sigma nu "entourage" certainly you had to ask what they were doing in that room. sooooo, what were they doing? sitting around for bible study?

Comment: Sandy - I did not see Andrew drinking anything.

Comment: landon - I think he was there with his girlfriend and his girlfriend's friend. I could be wrong, but that's what people are saying on juicycampus.com. apparently bynum's girl goes to ucla. he did look healthy to me, but i didn't have him run through an agility ladder or anything. My friend gave him a high five. I kept it cool and gave him a head nod. And I know this may sound obvious, but he is really tall. You don't really notice it until he stands around normal people.

Comment: did bynum get down with any of the young ladiez??? did he look healthy to u cuz i alwayz felt he should have been back to action and the lakers are juz trying to hide him off for now!!
